Gemak Group finishes module production for Osman Gazi FPU, enhancing Turkey's energy independence through the Sakarya Gas Field project.
Gemak Group has successfully completed the module production works undertaken for the Osman Gazi Floating Production Unit (FPU) as part of the Sakarya Gas Field Phase 2 project, developed in line with Turkey's energy independence goals.
Located approximately 170 kilometers offshore and at a water depth of 2,150 meters, the Sakarya Gas Field, where a natural gas reserve of 405 billion cubic meters was discovered in 2020, will see the Osman Gazi Vessel involved in the processing and transfer of this gas reserve. The works carried out for the Osman Gazi Vessel are scheduled to be completed between November 2025 and July 2026.
FPU systems, used for the processing of hydrocarbons in offshore oil and gas fields, are critical production facilities that encompass the acceptance of flow from seabed wells, separation of oil, gas, and water, processing of gas, purification of produced water, and transfer processes of products. The modules produced in this context constitute an important component of the Sakarya Gas Field Phase 2 development works.
Approximately 2,100 tons of steel manufacturing was carried out within the scope of the project. The production activities were conducted using the integrated infrastructure of Gemak Altınova Shipyard and Neta Pipe Steel Factory, which are part of Gemak Group. The DNV-OS-C401 standard was applied in steel and equipment manufacturing, while the ISO 8501-1 and SSPC SP-10 standards were the basis for painting processes.
One of the notable technical applications of the project was carried out during the module manufacturing process. A special digital synchronization was established between the Tekla modeling system and the NC-controlled pipe cutting machine at Neta Pipe Steel Factory, in accordance with the high precision required for full penetration pipe welds. This system integration increased accuracy and efficiency in the production processes, ensuring that the preparation of welds was carried out in accordance with project requirements.
The transportation and shipment processes of the modules after production were also carried out using the resources of Gemak Group. In heavy load transportation operations, SPMT (Self-Propelled Modular Transporter) equipment within the group was utilized, while the M/V Neta vessel was used for maritime transport. Thus, production, logistics, and shipment activities were managed under a single roof, providing operational efficiency.
The modules of the Osman Gazi Vessel, which will be used in the Sakarya Gas Field Phase 2 development works conducted by the Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO), will contribute to increasing Turkey's natural gas production capacity.
Gemak Group continues to be a solution partner in Turkey's strategic energy and industrial projects by carrying out production at international standards with its engineering competence in shipbuilding, heavy industry, steel construction, and offshore projects.
