DJI has sued the FCC over a ban on its new drones, affecting US customers and competition with Autel and other foreign manufacturers.
Chinese dronemaker DJI has filed a lawsuit challenging a decision by the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to block imports of its new models and critical components, as reported by Reuters.
The ban also extends to products from Autel, another China-based drone manufacturer. DJI stated that it lodged the case in the US Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit, arguing that the FCC ruling restricts its business and denies US customers access to its latest technology.
The FCC's decision in December prevents DJI, Autel, and other foreign drone companies from obtaining approval to sell new drones or components in the US, although existing versions can still be sold.
In December 2024, Congress ordered that DJI and Autel be added to the banned list within one year unless a security review allows for continued sales.
