The Russian container ship Yanina was sunk by Ukrainian drones in the Black Sea, with all crew members rescued, according to reports.
The Russian container ship Yanina, owned by Fesco, a subsidiary of Rosatom, was sunk in the Black Sea after being struck by Ukrainian maritime drones, reported UkraNews.
Rosatom Chairman Alexey Likhachev stated that the vessel was attacked on the night of August 1, approximately 130 miles from Novorossiysk. He claimed the ship was a civilian vessel carrying frozen foods and construction materials.
All 17 crew members were rescued following the incident. Mr. Likhachev described the attack as piracy and maritime robbery, insisting that the ship was operating in international waters.
The Yanina was added to Fesco's fleet in September 2021. According to company data, the vessel measured 142 meters in length, 22 meters in width, had a deadweight of 13,007 tonnes, and a capacity of 962 TEU.
The crew complement was listed as 14 people on the Fesco website, though Rosatom reported that 17 were aboard at the time of the attack.
