Costamare and CMA CGM have purchased three 5,600 TEU vessels from Wan Hai Lines, generating $66 million in profit for the Taiwanese carrier.
Greek tonnage provider Costamare Shipping and French liner operator CMA CGM have acquired three 2001-built 5,600 TEU vessels sold by Taiwanese carrier Wan Hai Lines in March, reports London's Container Management.
The trio of ships changed hands for a combined price that generated US$66 million in profit for Wan Hai, according to Container News, though individual vessel prices were not disclosed.
The vessels, now more than two decades old, represent vintage tonnage at the smaller end of the intermediate feeder segment.
Wan Hai's disposal of the assets follows a broader industry trend of liner operators monetizing aging owned tonnage at historically elevated secondhand values, while tonnage providers such as Costamare absorb capacity for charter deployment.
