GEODIS enhances its Australian fleet with a Volvo FM Electric Prime Mover, marking a significant step in sustainable container haulage.

GEODIS and Volvo are now collaborating in Australia, where GEODIS has added a Volvo FM Electric Prime Mover to its local fleet. It is the company's third electric truck in the country and its first electric vehicle used in container haulage.

The truck will primarily transport full container loads of Volvo cargo from Sydney's Port Botany to Volvo's warehouse, making around 850 trips annually. These trips account for about 63% of the truck's capacity. GEODIS will utilize the remaining capacity to serve its new warehouse in Minto, located next to Volvo's facility, supporting retail and e-commerce logistics.

According to GEODIS, the FM Electric is designed to meet the demands of container haulage. The truck produces zero tailpipe emissions and operates with lower noise levels, key benefits for metropolitan routes.

GEODIS introduced its first electric truck in Sydney in 2023 and continues to evaluate where electrification can reduce emissions across its operations.

"Our experience with electric vehicles is giving us a clearer understanding of where electrification can deliver real benefits for our customers and our operations," said Stuart Asplet, Cluster Managing Director - Pacific, Korea, Japan at GEODIS. "With the Volvo FM Electric, we are taking that experience into the more demanding environment of container haulage. This is an important step in expanding the role of electric transport within our fleet and building practical, scalable solutions for customers that can contribute to lower-emission supply chains."

The initiative, supported by Volvo, is part of GEODIS' global decarbonization strategy, which also includes work on sustainable fuels and multimodal transport.

GEODIS, a global logistics provider and subsidiary of SNCF Group, offers a wide range of transport and logistics services across 160+ countries. Volvo Group, a leading vehicle manufacturer, produces the FM Electric, a battery-electric heavy truck under its Volvo Trucks brand.
