Chinese EV manufacturers will introduce lidar systems in models starting at CNY60,000, enhancing safety features in the mass market.
Chinese electric vehicle makers plan to fit lidar-based driving systems in models priced from CNY60,000 (US$8,795) this year, reports Hong Kong's South China Morning Post.
The price point marks the lowest for mainstream EVs in China, excluding mini cars sold below CNY50,000, underscoring intensifying competition as policy incentives are phased out.
Lidar technology, which provides precise road data in poor conditions such as heavy fog, was previously limited to premium models due to high component costs.
This move signals a shift as manufacturers seek to differentiate their offerings and expand advanced safety features into mass-market vehicles.
