China's new action plan aims to integrate AI in shipping, enhancing productivity and innovation from 2026 to 2030, reports Xinhua.
China has launched an action plan to integrate artificial intelligence and other advanced technologies into shipping, aiming to build new productive forces in the sector, reports Xinhua.
The plan was jointly issued by the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission, and the State Administration for Market Regulation. It sets requirements, tasks, and support measures for smart shipping during the 15th Five-Year Plan period from 2026 to 2030.
By 2027, China aims to achieve deep integration of AI with shipping, make breakthroughs in key technologies, establish more than three pilot zones, open five pilot routes, develop over 10 replicable scenarios, and operate more than 100 smart vessels.
By 2030, the country expects full mastery of core technologies, a coordinated model of technology, industry, and governance, and internationally advanced levels in smart shipping.
The plan deploys 11 tasks across four dimensions: breakthroughs in technology and equipment, pilot applications, infrastructure upgrades, and stronger regulatory governance.
