China's draft five-year plan features two new pipelines for Russian gas, hinting at a potential acceleration of the Power of Siberia 2 project.
China has listed two new pipelines to carry Russian natural gas in the draft of its next five-year plan, reports Hong Kong's South China Morning Post. The move has stirred speculation that the Power of Siberia 2 project could be accelerated.
The draft blueprint for 2026 to 2030 states that China would advance preparatory work for the central route of the China-Russia pipeline over the next five years. Market observers interpret this as a reference to Power of Siberia 2, which would run through Mongolia.
Analysts have cautioned that a completion date remains uncertain, noting the absence of a public agreement between Beijing and Moscow on key details. They emphasize that the project is still far from final approval.
The draft plan was released last week during the annual Two Sessions meetings in Beijing. It offered no further explanation of the pipeline proposals.
