BYD's new Blade Battery can charge EVs from 10 to 97% in under nine minutes, aiming to ease range anxiety for Chinese consumers.
BYD has launched its second generation Blade Battery with flash charging technology that can power an electric vehicle from 10 to 97 percent in under nine minutes, reports Caixin.
The company stated that this breakthrough rivals the refueling speed of petrol cars and is aimed at alleviating range anxiety among Chinese buyers. This strategy positions BYD against competitors such as Nio and Contemporary Amperex, which have focused on battery swapping models.
To support the rollout, BYD plans to build 20,000 flash charging stations across China by the end of 2026. The network will include 2,000 highway sites and 18,000 urban stations, many of which will be created by upgrading existing public chargers in partnership with operators.
BYD indicated that the initiative, expected to cost tens of billions of yuan, would ensure a charging station every 100 kilometers across about one-third of China's highways.
