Alfor Aviation introduces an innovative freight conversion system, reducing costs by 40% and conversion times to three months, targeting A330 models.
Alfor Aviation has unveiled a simplified aircraft freight conversion system using internal elevators instead of cutting new cargo doors, reports London's Flight Global.
The British-Turkish firm stated that its 'internal loading system' allows standard Unit Load Device containers to be lifted from belly holds to the main deck. Executives indicated that the process could cut conversion times to as little as three months and reduce freight costs by up to 40 percent.
Initial conversions will target Airbus A330-300s, with A330-200s to follow. Company president Omer Mafa mentioned that the sector had not been rethought for decades, and the new system offers airlines a faster, cheaper way to extend the life of aging aircraft.
Alfor is working to complete its first conversion this year and aims for European Union Aviation Safety Agency certification. Executives declined to name potential customers but stated that sales could begin in 2027.
The firm also announced Teesside Airport in northeast England as the site for its conversion facility, which could handle up to 12 aircraft annually.
Mafa noted that operators were reluctant to spend more than the value of older aircraft on conversions, but Alfor's system provides an affordable solution to give jets a second life instead of scrapping them.
