BYD has filed a lawsuit against the US government for refunds on tariffs imposed during the Trump administration, claiming overreach in tariff authority.
Chinese electric vehicle maker BYD has filed a lawsuit against the US government seeking refunds on tariffs imposed under the Trump administration, reports Caixin.
The case was lodged on January 26 with the US Court of International Trade by several BYD subsidiaries. They argued that Washington exceeded its authority in levying the duties and demanded repayment, according to court filings.
The challenge targets the administration's reliance on the International Emergency Economic Powers Act since February 2025 to impose tariffs on a broad range of imports. The policy has already prompted thousands of businesses, including Costco and Toyota, to mount similar legal actions questioning its legality.
