Avianca Cargo transported over 21,000 tons of flowers to the US for Mother's Day 2026, marking its largest seasonal operation to date.

Avianca Cargo moved more than 21,000 tons of flowers to the United States during the 2026 Mother's Day season, its largest ever, reported the American Journal of Transportation.

The airline accounted for 42 percent of Colombian flower exports to the US, with one in three flowers from Colombia and Ecuador transported aboard Avianca aircraft. The operation involved more than 330 cargo flights, supported by nine freighters and leased capacity.

Chief Executive Diogo Elias stated that the results reflected the scale of the operation and the trust from partners. Miami remained the main gateway, handling more than 1,500 tons of stems daily, according to county mayor Daniella Levine Cava.

Avianca dedicated 42 percent of its capacity to flowers during the season, up from 30 percent in a typical week. At peak, up to 24 daily departures moved 24 million stems within 24 hours.

Infrastructure was strengthened to meet demand. Miami increased its ground workforce by 20 percent and added a new inspection area with US Customs. Bogotá expanded warehouse capacity by 35 percent and Medellín by 41 percent.

Avianca maintained strong market positions, with about 65 percent share on Medellín-Miami and 35 percent on Bogotá-Miami routes. Los Angeles frequencies rose from three to five weekly compared with 2025.

US Customs stated that agriculture specialists worked to ensure flowers were safe from pests and diseases. Avianca also highlighted the role of mothers in the floriculture and logistics sectors, recognizing their contribution to ensuring millions of blooms reached homes worldwide.
