The "Maersk Alabama" was once more under pirate attack on May 14, 2011. Warning Shots by armed guards on board also this time foiled the pirate attack. A skiff with no lights was picked up on radar just aft of the ship's starboard side and turned abruptly to starboard to follow its wake.
When the skiff approached the stern, the crew visually identified five people on board with a ladder ready for action. The captain gave permission for a security team to fire warning shots to prevent the boat from approaching the ship. The skiff quickly swung away from the ship which at that time was passing through the Gulf of Aden from Salalah to Jeddah. Already on Mar 9 armed guards on board the "Maersk Alabama" had fired warning shots to scare off attacking pirates.
