A container ship attacked by a drone in the Black Sea arrives at Samsun Port with significant damage to its bow and deck.
A container ship that was sailing in the Black Sea was attacked by a drone and reached Samsun Port after sustaining heavy damage.
Following the attack, the ship was directed to a safe area and anchored at Samsun Port on the evening of August 28. Initial inspections on the vessel revealed that there was significant damage, particularly to the containers in the bow section and the deck area.
As a result of the attack, numerous containers located at the front of the ship were damaged. It was reported that some containers became completely unusable due to severe damage. Notable damage was also observed in the deck section.
Authorities are conducting an investigation to determine the extent of the damage to the ship. At this stage, there is no new information confirmed by official sources regarding which elements carried out the attack.
The security risk for commercial vessels in the Black Sea is increasing.
The recent incident has brought the risks of war in the Black Sea on commercial maritime transportation back to the forefront. In recent weeks, Turkish-owned and Turkish-affiliated civilian vessels in the region have also been affected by drone attacks, raising security concerns in the maritime sector.
The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a press release on August 4 that the Turkish-owned civilian vessels named Yaşar and Nadezhda were attacked by UAVs after departing from Novorossiysk Port, and some crew members were injured. The ministry called for concrete measures to be taken to ensure navigational safety in the Black Sea.
