Sanmar launched two advanced tugboats for Rimorchitori Napoletani in Naples, enhancing their eco-friendly fleet with innovative technology.
The naming ceremony for the new tugboats built by Sanmar for the leading Italian operator Rimorchitori Napoletani took place on November 29 in Naples.
GARGANO and PORTOSALVO are the latest additions to the highly successful Boğaçay series of ship maneuvering tugs, designed by the renowned Canadian naval architecture firm Robert Allan Ltd.
These Boğaçay class tugs are continuously developed using the latest technologies and innovations. The newest versions, GARGANO and PORTOSALVO, are the most environmentally friendly Boğaçay tugs to date. They feature high levels of machinery automation to maximize efficiency and Tier III compliant main engines. Additionally, the optimized hull-propeller-engine configuration allows for key performance metrics such as bollard pull and speed to be achieved with lower installed power and reduced fuel consumption, significantly benefiting environmental impact and operating expenses (OPEX).
Each of the sister tugs measures 24.4 meters in length, 12 meters in mold width, 4.5 meters in minimum mold depth, and has an approximate sailing draft of 5.45 meters. They can achieve a bollard pull of over 70 tons and a free sailing speed of 12.5 knots.
Rimorchitori Napoletani, which has its roots in assisting sailing ships at Naples Port in the late 19th century, continues to modernize its fleet with Sanmar’s technologically advanced and market-leading tugs.
GARGANO and PORTOSALVO are the seventh and eighth tugs built by Sanmar for Rimorchitori Napoletani, marking a successful collaboration that began in 2017.
Rüçhan Çıvgın, Commercial Director of Sanmar Shipyards, attended the baptism ceremony in Naples as a guest of honor. After the ceremony, he stated: “I was very happy to be there.
