THE vessel-sharing partners of THE alliance and Ocean Alliance are capitalising on the potential disruption caused by the dissolution of the 2M alliance to strengthen their east-west networks and increase their market share, reports London's Loadstar.
2M partners Maersk and MSC have remained tight-lipped about their strategy, as the 10-year Vessel Sharing Agreement (VSA) is set to expire.
While the two carriers are pulling in different directions on capacity management, communication has been kept to a minimum, according to sources.
Maersk CEO Vincent Clerc stated during the Q1 earnings call that the company would disclose its standalone network plans at a later stage once they have full operational control.
Both Ocean and THE Alliance members have already announced network upgrades last month.
'We do believe we can actually create a network where we can increase asset intensity, so we will need less capacity to move the same amount with less carbon footprint, more reliability and, also, very competitive transit times,' said Mr Clerc.
'We cannot do that today, in an alliance set-up; we will do that once we get out of the alliance.'
