KLM currently operates three Boeing 747-400 cargo aircraft, which will be phased out in the coming years as Airbus delivers three A350 freighters, reports New York's Freight Waves.
air France-KLM has revised its order with Airbus, reducing its commitment to the new A350 freighter in favour of additional passenger aircraft following another delay in the freighter programme.
The airline group has trimmed its A350 freighter order from eight to six aircraft, converting two reserved production slots into orders for A350-900 passenger jets.
The adjustment comes after Airbus announced last month that the A350 freighter's entry into service has been pushed back to the second half of 2027, according to an emailed statement from Air France-KLM spokesman Gerard Roelfzema.
Currently, Air France-KLM operates six dedicated cargo aircraft.
Martinair Cargo, an all-cargo subsidiary, flies four Boeing 747-400 freighters, three of which carry the KLM brand. Meanwhile, Air France operates two Boeing 777-200 freighters.
