THE 523-TEU Jaohar Rima suffered mechanical failure August 26 in Aegean Sea north of Kythnos island, Greece, while en route from Algeria to Mariupol, Ukraine, in the Azov Sea, reports Kiev's Maritime Bulletin, which specialises in marine casualties.
The Sierra Leone-flagged ship started to drift when she was about 1.3 nautical miles north east of northernmost tip of Kythnos, with coast guard and a tanker on standby nearby, ready to prevent ship's drift towards island's coast.
The 5,397-dwt Jaohar Rima was built in 1998 and is managed by Lyndon Marine Ltd of Romania (EQUASIS).
A tug is reported to be underway to take the disabled ship in tow.
