In the evening of Aug 4, 2018, the 'BBC Lagos' ra aground at Råå, south of Helsingborg at the Swedish Øresund coast. The Swedish authorities tried to in vain to stop the ship before it got stck, but no-one responded. The captain was suspected to have been drunk at the helm. Shortly after 11 p.m. the Maritime and Air Rescue Center remarked that the ship was sailing on a wrong course and repeatedly called it over radio. Also a pilot boat tried to get in touch with the vessel. They got no response and at 11:30 pm. the ship ran aground in pos. 56° 0.10' N 012° 43.03' E. When the Swedish authorities boarded after the grounding, it was clear that the ship's captain was heavily intoxicated. He was arrested for drunken sailing. There were no signs of oil spillage from the ship which was stuck 500 meters from the shore. Also tugs were called, but no attempt will be made to pull the ship off before a dive survey of the hull has been completed. The Coast Guard's surveillance vessel 'KBV 314' was nearby and quickly on scene. A diver of the Coastguard conducted a survey of the hull during the morning hours of Aug 5. No damage to the hull, either from the inside or outside, was found so far. The vessel was on its way from Klaipeda to Las Palmas with a cargo of 5000 tonnes of wheat.
