THE Liberian-flagged 5,618-TEU zim Europe, out of Boston and deep into the Med, heading for Suez on its way to Malaysia, turned tail and took the Cape route instead, after attacks on Israeli-linked ships in the Red Sea and Arabian Gulf, reports New York's FreightWaves.
Following three attacks on vessels linked to Israel, the Zim Europe changed course and headed back to the Atlantic and took the long way around Africa rather than transiting the Suez Canal and passing through the Bab el-Mandeb Strait off Yemen.
Ship position data from MarineTraffic shows that the ship passed through the Strait of Gibraltar and entered the Mediterranean. It continued due east until it turned back.
