PORT Klang-based CNC Freight Services, a member of the Worldwide Project Consortium (WWPC) network for Malaysia, successfully transported four units of PCD vessels and two units of Flare KO drums from Malaysia to DeKalb, Mississippi in the United States.
The shipment of oversized pressure vessels was delivered to Kempers County IGCC Site at DeKalb. The project required four overhead transmission wire-crossings to be de-energised during inland transportation, which was handled by CNC Freight Services together with fellow WWPC member Albacor Shipping Inc, Houston.
WWPC said in a statement that two separate part-charter vessels were arranged for the six units with a total shipping volume of 5,500 freight tonnes.
At Mobile Port in Alabama, US, Albacor Shipping arranged for the cargo to be received by barges and delivered via the Mississippi River in order to bypass all the fixed obstructions from Mobile to DeKalb.
The PCD vessels were transported from the ro-ro jetty using a double-wide, multi-axles trailer. Four overhead electric wire crossings had to be 'de-energised' in order for the PCD vessel to pass through it.
Through the careful supervision and close coordination between CNC personnel and Albacor who were on site for the delivery, all the cargoes were handed over to the project owner without any problem. The final unit of PCD vessel was delivered to DeKalb site on January 24.
