ST LAWRENCE Seaway Management Corporation (SLSMC) and UNIFOR, the union representing 360 canal workers, have reached a tentative agreement, ending a strike that started October 22, reports UK's Seatrade Maritime News.
The specific terms of the agreement, which still require worker ratification, have not been disclosed.
As the strike concluded, employees returned to work at 7am on October 30, and SLSMC announced that ships would gradually resume their passage.
The American Great Lakes Port Association reports that over 100 ships await passage through the seaway system in east and westbound directions.
'Seaway traffic managers are now working closely with vessel operators and pilot organisations to choreograph a smooth reopening. They estimate that it will take 3-4 days for ship traffic flows to return to normal,' said the Association.
