THE Port Authority of Valencia (APV) is preparing to initiate the bidding process for the construction of a cutting-edge container quay known as the North Terminal, reports Rotterdam's Dredging Today.
APV has already received four offers from prospective contractors vying for the opportunity to execute the container dock works as part of the northern expansion of the Port of Valencia.
The upcoming container terminal represents a significant advancement in port infrastructure, blending technology, eco-efficiency, intermodality, and sustainability to deliver optimal service to the Spanish economy while maintaining crucial interoceanic connectivity with markets across five continents.
Situated in sheltered waters within the northern expansion zone, completed in 2012, the terminal will span 137 hectares and feature 1,970 metres of docking line, providing capacity for up to five million containers.
The North Terminal will boast state-of-the-art design, technologies, and equipment, including a fully electrified installation to accommodate large container ships efficiently, optimising both maritime and land operations.
Construction of this pioneering terminal is slated to commence before the conclusion of 2024, signalling a significant step forward in enhancing the Port of Valencia's capabilities and global connectivity.
