US-based maritime companies plan to hire around 75,000 Filipino seafarers in the coming three to four years, reports Bangalore's Marine Insight.
During an official working trip to Washington Carnival Corp CEO John Padget met with President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos to discuss the recruitment of Filipino seafarers.
Mr Padget praised the Filipino seafarers for their excellent hospitality and mentioned that his companies are interested in hiring more in the next three or four years, regardless of the position, whether in the marine, hospitality, deck or restaurant services.
Currently, the Philippines is the leading provider of seafarers worldwide, with nearly 380,000 deployed on various vessels worldwide.
However, the Philippine maritime industry has faced problems, such as the European Commission's rejection of certificates for about 50,000 masters and officers on EU-flagged ships due to noncompliance with requirements.
Mr Marcos is visiting the us to boost economic collaboration with relevant government officials and business leaders in Washington.
