THE us Department of Commerce has unveiled several initiatives to implement President Joe Biden's executive order on the Safe, Secure, and Trustworthy Development of artificial intelligence (AI), reports the American Journal of Transportation.
In line with this order, the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) released four draft publications intended to enhance AI systems' safety, security and trustworthiness.
These publications cover various aspects of AI technology, including guidance on managing the risks of generative AI, promoting transparency in digital content, and developing global AI standards.
NIST also launched a challenge series to support the development of methods to differentiate human content from that produced by AI.
The US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) also published a public comment requesting feedback on how AI could impact patent evaluations under US law.
This includes questions on prior art qualifications and assessing the skill level required for AI inventions.
These initiatives aim to ensure responsible innovation in AI while mitigating associated risks.
They reflect the government's commitment to transparency and stakeholder engagement in shaping AI policy and regulation, ultimately supporting America's technological leadership in this field.
