THE dispute between Turkish Airlines and the National union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE) over the dismissal of seven Nigerian staff continues, with aviation workers rejecting the airline's $600,000 ticket racketeering allegations as false, reports Ajuba's Leadership newspaper.
Leadership reports that NUATE had picketed Turkish Airlines, accusing the airline of high-handedness and severe mistreatment of its workers, including unjustifiable dismissals and forced resignations of seven employees.
The picketing led to passengers being stranded at airports in Lagos and Istanbul.
In a statement signed by NUATE general secretary Ocheme Aba and made available to Leadership, NUATE refuted claims that the dismissed staff were involved in ticket racketeering.
According to Mr Aba, the airline's sales manager, a Turkish national, instructed staff to use PNRs obtained online by customers to process their tickets manually.
This manual processing was necessary because customers could not pay online due to a sales restriction circular issued by the airline in response to difficulties in repatriating the proceeds.
