Four additional newbuildings have emerged in the hands of Turkey’s Arkas Lines, according to Trade Winds. A source familiar with Arkas says it booked the quartet last year but the deal was never reported.Ouhua is slated to deliver the vessels at the end of 2017 and in 2018.“The newbuildings were of the same size as its earlier four, which are 2,500 teu,” said the source. “But Arkas has now upsized the latest quartet to 3,100 teu.”Arkas’ initial order for four newbuildings with reefer plugs was placed two years ago at between $27m and $30m each. It is due to take delivery of the first ship, to be named Funda A, next month.Arkas has a fleet of 39 boxships, of which 32 are owned. They trade in the Mediterranean, West Africa and the Black Sea.
