PD PORTS, which runs Teesport on the north-east coast of England, says it handled 12,000 TEU in the second week of October, its biggest week ever, reports the Northern Echo of Darlington, County Durham.
The company said the throughput was the highest volume since it made the GBP6.7 million (US$10.7 million) in 2012 in the container terminal, which now has a 650,000 TEU annual capacity.
Teesport posted a two per cent decline in full year 2013 to 248,000 TEU, according to Dynaliner data.
"We have seen a significant increase in container volumes following the introduction of two new shipping lines and the growing support of existing and new customers," said PD Ports unitised logistics director Frans Calje.
"Our team at Teesport has performed exceptionally well with the uplift in volume and this week has shown what the port is capable of," he said.
