VIETNAM's Tan Cang Hai Phong International Container Terminal (TC-HICT), 120 kilometres from the capital Hanoi, lifted its 500,000th TEU on October 22, according to the official Nhan Dan. news service.
The handling of 12.5 million tonnes of cargo in the first 10 months of this year is considered an impressive figure given the impact of the Covid crisis.
Since its establishment in May 2018, TC-HICT runs 10 service routes per week, including three service routes across the Pacific to the US, two routes to India, and five intra-Asia routes.
TC-HICT is a joint venture between Saigon Newport Corporation, Japan's MOL and Itochu Group and Taiwan's Wan Hai Lines.
TC-HICT is the largest deep-water container terminal in northern Vietnam, with two 750 metre berths and a 660-metre turning basin.
The terminal can accommodate container vessels with up to 16,000 TEU and handle cargo throughput of 1.1 million TEU per year.
