THE opening of the st Lawrence Seaway 2022 navigation season is scheduled to take place, first at the Welland Canal linking Lake Ontario to Lake Erie, on March 24, reported the American Journal of Transportation.

The opening of the Sault St Marie Locks (USA.) is currently scheduled for March 25.
In the Montreal / Lake Ontario Section, the maximum allowable draft will be 26 feet for all ships when the South Shore Canal is ice-free and when water levels are favourable.
Mariners are reminded that for ships loaded to a draft greater than 26' 3', speeds will be monitored carefully between St Lambert Lock and St Nicolas Island.
In the Welland Canal, a maximum allowable draft of 26' 6' will be in effect from the start of the navigation season for all ships.
