THREE major trucking federations joined a protest in Spain over increasing fuel prices, escalating protests that are hindering trade and industry, reports Bloomberg.
French dairy giant Danone warned that it will have to halt operations in Spain within 24 hours if the protests continue.
Spain Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez toured European capitals to try to increase support for an overhaul of the continent's energy markets.
Mr Sanchez's government is also working to gain political backing to ease the fallout of the war in Ukraine.
The truckers' protest is expected to continue after three federations of transportation companies declared the government's pledges for US$550 million in direct help was not enough.
Economy minister Nadia Calvino declared that the aid will lower fuel costs for truck drivers and owners.
Comisiones Obreras head Unai Sordo declared if Sanchez doesn't come up with more robust measures to control prices of products, the country could face more social disruption in the coming weeks.
'It all depends on what the government puts on the table,' said Mr Sordo.
'If the government can take measures to ease the spike in prices, from fertilisers to fuel, then the situation can return to normal.'
