58S 051 52E pirates highjacked unknown fishing vessel.
Thor Nexus IMO 8712491, dwt 20410, built 1989, flag Thailand, owner Thoresen&Company Bangkok, crew 27 all Thai citizen. Vessel was enroute Jebel Ali UAE – Bangladesh. Looking at the map, and highjack position, one may wonder, why vessel came off shortest (and safest) way and sailed that much west.
On Dec 22 another vessel of Thoresen&Company Bangkok, general cargo Thor Nautilus(Thor Nautilus IMO 8701076, dwt 18100, built 1988, flag Thailand, owner Thoresen&Company Bangkok), was attacked by Somali pirates, but as navies and international maritime organizations proudly report, attack was thwarted thanks to BMP. Actually, all thanks are to be given to razor wire, but wire didn’t help Thor Nexus.
There is only one way to guarantee safety of vessels passing pirates-infested waters of Indian ocean – armed guards on board. Either owner hires guards, or he is too greedy for that, and as a result, has to pay much more.
