THE Houthis claimed responsibility for the February 18 assault on the Rubymar, a cargo ship registered under the Belizean flag and managed by a Lebanese company, carrying flammable fertilisers, reports Agence France-Presse.
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed that the vessel was 'sunk in the Red Sea' following an attack by an anti-ship missile.
'The approximately 21,000 tonnes of ammonium phosphate sulfate fertiliser that the vessel was carrying presents an environmental risk in the Red Sea,' said CENTCOM.
'As the ship sinks it also presents a subsurface impact risk to other ships transiting the busy shipping lanes of the waterway.'
