Ship operator battered ship's pilotIn Türkiye, at the Yalova shipyards region, a ship operator, resentful of the slight damage to the ship during the berthing maneuver, attacked and battered the pilot. The Turkish Pilots' Association issued a condemnation of the assault. Here is the statement below:
"WE REJECT…
Within the scope of the performance of a colleague of ours; unfortunately, he was exposed to physical violence by the ship operator… We do not accept any form of violence and strongly condemn this situation.
The main field of activity of our association is to express the principles of the pilotage service in the eyes of the public and to protect and represent the rights and laws of our colleagues arising from their working relations before the state offices, private and legal persons in line with the legal legislation and customs in force.
The guidance service, which is accepted as a "public service" in all other modern countries in the world, has been organized in the same status in our country.
In the historical process, the guidance mechanism in maritime arose out of necessity, as in everything else.
Guidance service; In addition to providing the physical and technical support that ships need in narrow spaces, it has another function that can only be seen by experienced eyes. This function is to “ensure the sustainability” of the supply chains within the scope of highly developed production-consumption relations, both on the production and consumption side.
Pilots serving 24/7 in all weather and sea conditions; They have a highly respected place both in the maritime community and in society in general, all over the world and in our country.
Evaluation of all kinds of accidents and incidents that may occur while providing guidance services with high risk factors; It is clearly at the disposal of our Administration in accordance with the current legislation.
These attitudes of the ship operators, who are involved in the event to the point of causing physical harm to our colleague, by ignoring the "Defect Detection and Evaluation Commission" to be established by the administration and the requirements of the "Safe Management Systems", which has now become a routine application of maritime practices, are both modern maritime practices and It is also very embarrassing for modern life.
This distressing event that has occurred and has been brought to the judiciary; We declare that we will follow our profession, and ultimately the country we serve, at the level of contemporary civilizations, within the framework of our responsibility, and wish our esteemed colleague a speedy recovery. We respectfully announce to the public.
