THE Port of Rijeka in Croatia was hit by a cyberattack by the 8Base ransomware group, with stolen data including sensitive accounting data and contracts, according to Surrey, UK's WorldCargo News.
The Port of Rijeka in Croatia was targeted by a cyberattack over the last weekend, raising concerns over the breach of sensitive data.
The 8Base ransomware group claimed responsibility for the attack, according to the HackManac X profile. The group has set a ransom deadline of December 10.
The stolen data reportedly includes financial and accounting records, personal information, employment contracts, and a significant number of NDAs.
Dusko Grabovac, the CEO of the Port of Rijeka, confirmed to the Croatian media outlet Novi list that the cyberattack occurred over last weekend.
He reassured the public that, while some data had been stolen, the ransom had not been paid.
Mr Grabovac emphasized that the port's systems were functioning normally again, thanks to a backup system that facilitated the recovery of all data.
The Port of Rijeka handles all types of cargo, except ro-ro. It is home to the Adriatic Gate Container Terminal, where ICTSI holds a 51 per cent stake and the Port of Rijeka owns the remaining 49 per cent.
Additionally, the construction of the Rijeka Gateway container terminal is progressing rapidly. This terminal, a joint venture between APM Terminals and ENNA Logic, is scheduled to open in 2025, with an expected annual capacity of 650,000 TEU.
