GLOBAL schedule reliability continues to be low for the year, while average delay for late-arriving vessels appears to be declining, a sign of future improvement, reports Fort Launderdale's Maritime Executive.
'The only continuing positive, if one should call it that, is that schedule reliability has not plummeted further,' said Sea-Intelligence CEO Alan Murphy.
'The average delay for late vessel arrivals, on the other hand, dropped down to 6.93 days, albeit still the highest figure for this month, which has been a recurring theme in 2021.'
Schedule reliability declined month over month by 0.6 percentage points to 33.6 per cent, in November 2021.
While it remains in the range of 33 to 40 per cent seen throughout the year, November was second-lowest to August which was 33.4 per cent.
The average for 2021 is 36 per cent and that compares to 66 per cent for the whole of 2020.
All of the major carriers are experiencing a decline in schedule reliability with Sea-Intelligence reporting that only Maersk and Hamburg Sud were able to remain above 40 per cent reliability.
Sea-Intelligence reported the overall container industry had 33.6 per cent schedule reliability.
Few experts are predicting any improvement in the challenges faced by the container shipping industry.
