Sao Paulo dockers mull February 4 strike over hiring non-union labour
THE dockers union in the Port of Santos Port, part Brazil's largest city Sao Paulo, where terminal operator DP World intends to expand capacity this year, is considering a general walkout from February 4 to protest plans to privatise the port.
The government has proposed plans to change law that obliges companies to hire dockers from the union, or the national port workers organisation (OGMO), reports GAC Hot Port News. If passed, the new law would allow terminals to hire who they wish.
