Sanmar Launches Latin America's First Fully Electric Tug for SAAM Towage
Sanmar Shipyards has marked the end of 2024 with a significant achievement, launching Latin America's first fully electric tugboat. This innovative vessel is set to operate in the region under SAAM Towage, a leading towing services provider in the Americas.The tugboat is based on the
ElectRA 2500SX model, designed exclusively for
Sanmar by renowned naval architecture firm Robert Allan Ltd. The vessel represents Sanmar's
eighth fully electric tug, showcasing the shipyard's commitment to advancing sustainable maritime technologies.Speaking about the launch,

SAAM Towage, boasts impressive specifications. With a
length of 25.4 meters, a
beam of 12.86 meters, and a
depth of 5.55 meters, the vessel is equipped with a
3,616 kWh battery system. This advanced energy storage capacity allows the tug to deliver a
bollard pull of at least 70 tons while achieving a
maximum speed of 11 knots.ElectRA series tugs are already making a mark in
North America and Europe, where they are operational and providing reliable service. These tugs offer versatility, with lengths ranging from
19 to 28 meters and bollard pull capacities between
40 and 85 tons, catering to a wide range of operational needs.
