The vessel, the 74,999-dwt Nave Andromeda, attracted attention after failing to dock as expected at Southampton, reported BBC News.
Hampshire police said that seven men were arrested 'on suspicion of seizing or exercising control of a ship by use of threats or force'.
The Southampton-bound ship left Lagos on October 5 with 22 crew. Ship manager Navios Tanker Management said the crew was safe and sustained no injuries.
