NETHERLANDS Royal HaskoningDHV has won the contract from Mumbai's Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) to carry out detailed design and engineering for a major port it plans to build at Vadhavan in Palghar district, Maharashtra.
The project, 132 kilometres north of Mumbai, will entail an investment of INR655.4 billion (US$8.9 billion). Vadhavan is being built to handle 254 million tonnes of cargo, including 9.87 million TEU, reports Mumbai's Construction Week Online
Royal HaskoningDHV will update the project report prepare tender documents for engineering, procurement and construction, contract for common infrastructure, detailed design and engineering for all the 11 cargo terminals, including four container terminals.
With the dedicated freight corridor passing through Vadhavan and given its deep draft of about 20 metres capable of handling 25,000-TEU ships, coupled with the distance advantage, the new port will emerge as a superior gateway compared to JNPT.
