Reefer ocean freight solution for DB Schenker's French wine growers
DB Schenker Logistics has commenced a new service for high-end wine growers in France at the ProWein trade fair in Duesseldorf, Germany from March 24 to 26.
The wine growers will benefit from an in-house express pick-up service, which will shorten the lead time between wineries and export platforms, and ensure that the valuable and sensitive cargo is less affected by variations in temperature, a company statement said.
The wine is protected in special insulated-roof trailers as soon as it is picked up. At the logistic provider's heat-insulated freight depots, the wine is then placed into refrigerated ocean freight containers ready for export. The express pick-up service is also be used to export premium wine via air freight.
For exports to China, the world's most important market for French wine, Japan, Korea, Australia and the US, a new less-than-container-load groupage service is also available, using refrigerated containers.
There are also plans to consolidate shipments of wine and spirits from neighbouring Switzerland, Germany, Spain and northern Italy.
The wine can also be monitored in real-time via the internet, using GPS coordinates. Parameters such as temperature, humidity and acceleration force, movement, vibration and inclination angle are continuously monitored. The device also reports any attempt to open the container.
