TRANSSHIPMENT through Hamad Port's container terminals surged 30 per cent year-on-year in 2023, reports St Petersburg PortNews.
According to Mwani Qatar's annual report, Hamad Port handled 557,464 TEU in transshipments, 43 per cent of its total TEU for the year.
Transshipment volumes peaked in November 2023 and were at their lowest in July 2023. Yard utilisation was highest in February 2023 and lowest in August 2023.
At the beginning of 2023, transshipment volumes through Hamad Port were 51,909 TEU in January; 51,761 TEU in February; 51,492 TEU in March; 44,685 TEU in April; 33,281 TEU in May; 33,416 TEU in June; 32,650 TEU in July; 45,035 TEU in August; 56,614 TEU in September; 49,683 TEU in October; 59,827 TEU in November; and 47,111 TEU in December.
Yard utilisation averaged 44 per cent year-to-date by the end of 2023, with monthly figures showing 47 per cent in January; 54 per cent in February; 48 per cent in March; 46 per cent in April, May, and June; 34 per cent in August; 43 per cent in September; 45 per cent in October; 43 per cent in November; and 36 per cent in December.
The average transshipment dwell time - the duration a vessel spends at port for securing, loading, or discharging cargo - was 10.7 days in 2023, up from 8.9 days the previous year.
