THE Greek port of Piraeus reached fourth place among all European ports in terms of container traffic in 2020, barely edging out Valencia to claim 'first place' in the Mediterranean, reports Athens-based TornosNews.
According to current data, 5.43 million TEU last year passed through the Cosco-managed Port of Piraeus, surpassing 5.41 million TEU in 2020 for the eastern Spanish Port of Valencia.
But the top three European container ports remained in northern Europe: Rotterdam (14.34 million TEU); Antwerp (12.02 million TEU) and Hamburg (8.52 million TEU).
