ITALY's west coast La Spezia Container Terminal (LSCT) will receive the service that connects the western Mediterranean with the ports on the Gulf of Mexico, reports London's Port Technology.
Starting in early August, an LSCT call will be added to the service operated by the shipping companies CMA CGM and Cosco.
The MedGulf service was launched at the end of 2022 and the port rotation includes: Tanger Med, La Spezia, Genoa, Barcelona, Valencia, Miami, Veracruz, Altamira and Houston.
The new connection reportedly strengthens the partnership between CMA CGM and Contship Italia Group, as LSCT terminal offers numerous connections on major global routes operated by the French carrier.
'The MedGulf service caters to all import/export flows in northern and central Italy, and we are proud to share this important news for the entire port system of La Spezia,' said Contship Italia chief commercial officer Cristiano Pieragnolo.
'The debut call in La Spezia is expected on August 6 with the Liberian 2,478-TEU AS Paola, and thanks to this new service we will further develop the number of connections to the US and Mexican markets via LSCT.
'The added value of the agreement with the customer was integrating the logistics offer by leveraging all intermodal connections to target the origin of the goods,' he said.
Said Contship Italia CEO Matthieu Gasselin: 'It is a key moment for our company. The new service is a further step forward in achieving the business objectives we have set for 2023.'
In April, Ocean Network Express (ONE) announced a change to its Philippines Express 2 (PHX2) port rotation. The new rotation will be Singapore, Manila (North), Cebu and back Singapore, with a bi-weekly frequency starting from Contship Era departing Singapore.
More recently, Victoria International Container Terminal (VICT) received the inaugural call of Cosco launched the ANE service.
