COPENHAGEN's Sea-Intelligence Maritime Analysis data shows carriers on Asia-North Europe plan to increase deployed capacity in the fourth quarter by 16 per cent, but estimates that 12.9 per cent of that will be cut by port congestion, reports IHS Media.
It is a similar picture on the Asia-Med trade, where Sea-Intelligence data shows carriers plan to increase deployed capacity by 18 per cent in the fourth quarter, but 14.7 per cent will be lost through port congestion.
'The fourth quarter capacity outlook also indicates an extension of the peak cargo season into Q4, as carriers are currently scheduled to deploy even more capacity in the fourth quarter than they did in Q3,' the report noted. 'This is an unprecedented development, as Golden Week normally marks the end of the Q3 peak cargo season, and carriers reciprocate the drop in demand by also reducing deployed capacity in Q4.'
The fourth quarter forecast by visibility provider eeSea shows October capacity growth increasing nine per cent over that deployed in September, and increasing 20 per cent compared with the same capacity deployed in October last year.
