GERMANY's peter Dohle Schiffahrts is back ordering boxships after a break of nearly nine years, reports Singapore's Splash 247.
The Hamburg-based boxship and bulker owner and operator has contracted four 14,000 TEU newbuilds at CSSC-affiliated Hudong-Zhonghua for delivery in 2027.
The vessels, set to be the largest in the company's fleet, will be scrubber-fitted and methanol-ready, costing about US$150 million each.
Other owners, including Seaspan, Evergreen and X-Press Feeders, have recently moved for more newbuild tonnage as the sector bounced back to the next highest level seen outside container shipping's boom during the covid pandemic.
'The container newbuilding run is set to continue through June, and we anticipate a string of orders will materialize during the summer,' MB Shipbrokers noted in their latest box market report.
Peter Dohle picked up several boxships in the secondhand market this year but has also bolstered its footprint in the capesize sector with two ships after entering the segment last year.
The last newbuild orders made by the company were recorded in July 2015, when a brace of 3,830 TEU were booked at Jiangsu New Yangzijiang.
