THE Pakistani government has given Fly Jinnah the green light to initiate scheduled international flights, reports Switzerland's chi-aviation.
In a meeting last week, the federal cabinet approved the airline's application with the backing of the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PC) and the prime minister's office.
Fly Jinnah, supported by Air Arabia, submitted an application in August seeking permission to operate flights to Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Iraq, Malaysia, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
With the exception of Azerbaijan, existing air service agreements between Pakistan and each country permit multiple operators on the relevant routes.
While Fly Jinnah has not disclosed its initial destinations, all the proposed routes, except for Bangladesh, already have at least one passenger airline serving them and, in some cases, multiple operators.
For instance, airlines like PIA, AirBlue, Serene Air, Air Arabia Abu Dhabi, Air Arabia, flydubai, Emirates and Etihad Airways operate on the busy Pakistan-UAE route.
Currently, Fly Jinnah operates three leased A320-200s, serving five cities within Pakistan. The airline, having obtained its operating permit in 2021, commenced operations in late 2022.
Pakistani aviation regulations mandate that local airlines successfully operate on domestic routes for at least 12 months before gaining permission to operate internationally.
