PAKISTANI narcotics officers in a nationwide sweep netted a huge cache of including 10.6 tonnes of hashish (charas), 517 kilos of morphine, 55 kilos of opium and 930 grammes of methamphetamine.
The operation, the biggest-ever catch in a single day also resulted in seizure of three vehicles and arrest of 10 persons involved, reported the Daily Times of Lahore.
The retail value at point of end-user sale was reckoned at PKR26 billion (US$255 million) international market. Most drugs were intended for export.
The 10-tonne hash seizure, in large plastic sacks, was concealed at a barren site in mountainous terrain near a populated area, ready to be shifted to a coastal point in Sindh for shipment by sea.
The morphine was in eleven 47-kilo plastic sacks, again in mountainous terrains but this time away from a populated area.
The methamphetamine and 40g of heroin concealed in a suitcase were destined for Saudi Arabia via air cargo.
