CHINA's Ningbo-Zhoushan port 2035 overall development plan has been approved by the Chinese Ministry of Transport and Zhejiang Provincial People's Government to enhance the maritime hub construction of the port.
The port aims to have a cargo handling capacity of 1.8 billion tonnes and a container volume of 60 million TEU by the year of 2035, reports UK's Seatrade Maritime News.
According to the plan, Ningbo-Zhoushan port will be transformed into an international seaport specializing in container and bulk cargo transportation, creating a pivotal transshipment and river-sea combined transportation hub for bulk commodities along the Yangtze River Delta and Yangtze River region.
These plans call for improving container hub port handling capacity by constructing five 10 million TEU-class port areas and strengthening berth service ability for oil & gas, coal and ore.
Emphasizing sustainability and green development of the port, Ningbo-Zhoushan will progressively improve the proportion of clean cargo by 9 per cent.
By 2035, Ningbo-Zhoushan port's layout will include two core areas in the central and north areas, and twenty port districts.
Over the coming two years, Ningbo-Zhoushan Port will kick off some 30 terminal projects.
