THE netherlands Maastricht Aachen Airport (MST) has recently unveiled its newly renovated runway, a project worth US$38 million, as part of an extensive plan to extend its operational length to 2,750 metres by January 2025, reports London's Air Cargo News.
The airport's comprehensive infrastructure development plan involves investing a total of $108 million over the coming years, with this eight-week renovation project being a significant step in that direction.
Notably, sustainability took centre stage during the launch event, held at the airport on June 30.
To mark the occasion and emphasise their commitment to environmentally friendly practices, an electric plane was used to officially inaugurate the renovated runway.
'Today, we are celebrating the launch of our newly improved runway and looking back over the hard work that has gone into the planning and execution of this project - but we are also looking forward,' said MST chief executive Jos Roeven.
'The decision to inaugurate the runway with an electric plane is symbolic of our commitment to ensure the sustainability of this airport for years to come.'
